Episode 10: Prisoner

Guitarist/ vocalist Pete Rozsa and drummer Joel Hansen discuss the band's forthcoming album Putrid /Obsolete (band photo: Keith Baillargeon)

Prisoner are a hard band to put into a neat box. The Richmond, Virginia five-piece could be described as sludge metal, crust punk, industrial metal and more besides.

What can be said with certainly is that the band’s forthcoming album Putrid / Obsolete makes for a convincing soundtrack to a world going up in flames.

As heavy in mood as it is sonically, you might expect (after listening to these raging blasts of intensity) that the makers of this music would be similarly intense and intimidating.

Happily, my experience of talking with Guitarist/ vocalist Pete Rozsa and drummer Joel Hansen was only positive.

We talked about their formative musical passions, the long process of brining Putrid / Obsolete into existence, our shared love of Neurosis (the band!) and plenty more.

You can pre-order the album from Persistent Vision Records, or Deathwish Inc for European customers.

Thanks for reading (and listening). If you haven’t done so already, why not subscribe? It will bring a sliver of joy to my day and I reckon you’ll dig some of the episodes that are on their way.

I like music with a sense of mystery. I like surprises and unique stories... and noise... and weirdness... and darkness... and I want to learn more.
